Women’s embroidered jackets

Our lovely collection of embroidered jackets is really exceptional. Every one of them is unique. For these one-off jackets we use beautiful embroidered fabrics, which  were made 20 or 30 years ago, and since then, have been carefully stored in someone’s wardrobe. These traditional embroidered fabrics, called “suzani” were made by the young bride to be. It showed the skills of the future wife, to her fiance and future in-laws. Each one of them is unique, in colour, pattern, quality and size. We rarely have the same embroidered jacket in different sizes, because there wasn’t enough fabric to make more than one. Our embroidered jackets are rich in intricate patterns and vibrant colours – white and orange on black and browns and many different shades of red. (Red is the colour of love and passion in the East. Many Indian brides, for example, choose a red wedding dress). Some of embroidered fabrics which we use for our exclusive jackets are very old and maybe has partially lost its quality, so our tailors and pattern-makers use their full creativite skills to follow the design of the jacket and avoid the parts of the fabric which cannot be used.

How do we get these fabrics? Our team is constantly on the look out for these fabrics throughout Central Asia, visiting remote villages markets, to buy this suzani embroidery if it’s available. We meet a lot of interesting people, hearing their life stories, enjoying their hospitality and drinking lots of tea. If you visit an Uzbek house, and get a little bowl of tea which is not full, don’t be surprised. The less tea you get the more important guest you are for this house. Less tea gets cooler sooner so you can sip it comfortably and as soon as you finish your cup, it will be filled for you again and again. It will take time, this is how people show you that they want you to stay a while.

Among our collection of jackets we also have handmade silk jackets. The story of silk invention takes us back to China, where according to legend, a Princess discovered it by accident while sitting under a mulberry tree drinking tea. A cocoon fell into her cup and unravelled to reveal a beautiful soft thin silk thread, ready for spinning and weaving.

So, it is said, silk cloth was first made in China and then traded to Rome and on to Europe for many centuries using the Silk Road. We call it the Silk Road because silk was one of the most important goods traded at that time. The Romans tried desperately to get the secret of silk, but it only came to Europe in 6th century, when two Nestorian monks smuggled silkworm eggs and mulberry seeds into the Byzantine Empire. Since then silk has always been in fashion, and the top designers the world over, have been wrapping us in yards of sheer organza and silks, creating beautiful shapes for us to feel fabulous in.

We offer lots of beautiful jackets in fabulous colours with soft silky textures. Each of our silk jacket is handmade in a special way, using the ancient technique of quilting. It is interesting to know that there are several people involved in production of one silk jacket. First, the narrow strips of silk warp are died in large bundles and later rearranged on the loom for weaving. Most of the silk fabrics we use in this collection are made by craftsmen in Ferghana valley of Uzbekistan. After the fabrics have been woven, it is hand-stitched by our tailors. You would be amazed how good these hand-made jackets in use. They are very light, warm and exclusive to make a stunning evening outfit with a black dress or just to wear it with jeans.
